Job Summary
Jefferson County Roads & Transportation is seeking a well-qualified Senior Construction Supervisor. Senior Construction Supervisors plan, assign, coordinate, and review the work of 20-35 subordinate workers engaged in major construction, including new road construction, road reconstruction, resurfacing, culverts, bridges, sidewalks, stormwater drainage, and other public works projects. They exercise independent discretion and may coordinate with multiple supervisors on major projects. Their work is reviewed through daily reports and discussions with superintendents and inspectors, and performance is evaluated via appraisals for adherence to federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications- Class A CDL
- Experience supervising crews performing various types of construction and maintenance, such as storm sewer, street paving, roads, parks, sidewalks, and right-of-way, and creek/ditch.
- Experience in the use of materials and methods involved in at least one of the following: heavy road construction and maintenance, roadway paving, repair and installation of culverts and storm sewer pipes, repair and installation of storm sewer inlet/manhole covers, bridge maintenance and construction, removal of non-native sediments from creeks, installation of commercial grade fencing and gates, and sidewalk/curb construction and maintenance.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans/blueprints, such as road construction or paving, medians, handicap ramps, sidewalks, storm sewer pipe installation, or grading sites for parks or building sites.
Job Duties
- Perform administrative tasks including handling citizen complaints, completing reports, budgetary oversight, attending meetings, and maintaining inventory to ensure department compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.
- Prepare for construction projects by determining necessary resources, ordering materials, and coordinating work to prevent delays.
- Coordinate and oversee field work related to the planning, preparation, and execution of construction and maintenance projects (e.g., roads, bridges, culverts, curbs, sidewalks, storm drains, catch basins, demolition) using industry best practices.
- Supervise staff by assigning and distributing work, directing job duties, monitoring progress, and providing feedback and training.
Job involves moderate physical exertion, including occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. It requires occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs.
Work EnvironmentWork is primarily performed at outdoor worksites such as roadways and construction sites, using standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier) and various hand tools (hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches). Workers may be exposed to weather conditions and hazardous traffic near roadway sites.
