Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Healthcare Estimator to join a growing Preconstruction team in Birmingham, Alabama. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of healthcare construction projects, including hospitals, medical office buildings, outpatient facilities, surgical centers, imaging centers, and specialty healthcare environments.
The ideal candidate will possess strong estimating and preconstruction expertise, a solid understanding of healthcare construction requirements, and the ability to collaborate with project stakeholders throughout the planning and budgeting process. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to complex healthcare projects while supporting team development and mentoring junior estimators.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and hard-bid estimates for healthcare construction projects.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
- Assist in the development of project budgets, value engineering recommendations, and cost-saving solutions.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, and cost drivers during the preconstruction process.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project planning discussions.
- Collaborate with operations, project management, and business development teams to support project pursuits.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost information, and benchmarking data.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Assistant Estimators.
- Support preconstruction leadership with presentations, project pursuits, and strategic initiatives.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of estimating or preconstruction experience with a commercial general contractor.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Preferred
- Experience with hospitals, medical office buildings, surgical facilities, imaging centers, laboratories, or other healthcare environments.
- Knowledge of healthcare-specific construction requirements, including infection control, life safety systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience participating in value engineering and constructability reviews.
- Prior experience mentoring junior estimators or supporting team development.
Experience with the following tools is preferred:

- Procore
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Project
- Produces accurate, detailed, and competitive project estimates.
- Contributes to the successful pursuit and award of healthcare construction projects.
- Identifies cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards.
- Builds strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Serves as a trusted technical resource within the Preconstruction and Estimating team.
