Role Description

The Estimator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Birmingham, AL. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing project plans and specifications, preparing detailed cost estimates for civil, structural steel, mechanical, piping, and related scopes, and analyzing labor, material, and equipment requirements. The Estimator will solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes, develop bid proposals, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement to ensure accurate pricing and scope alignment.

This role also involves identifying cost risks and opportunities, maintaining estimating databases and historical cost records, and supporting value engineering efforts. The Estimator will participate in pre-bid meetings, assist with schedule and resource planning input, and help ensure that proposals meet company standards and client expectations.

Qualifications
  • Strong estimating skills in industrial construction, including experience with civil, structural steel, mechanical, and piping scopes.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software, as well as MS Excel and other productivity tools used for cost analysis and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents, with solid math and analytical skills for quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented, organized approach to managing multiple bids and deadlines, with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Relevant experience in industrial construction or similar sectors; prior work with fabrication, erection, or maintenance projects is highly beneficial.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
  • Commitment to safety, ethical business practices, and continuous learning in estimating methods and industry standards.
