WORK DAYS: 9 Months (187 days) - SALARY:
Certified Schedule 16 (Level 1-4) ($49,080 - $93,875) Depending on degree level (recognized by ALSDE)

LOCATION:

Various Locations - FLSA Status: EXEMPTX - NON EXEMPT

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Theatre Arts/Drama Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality instruction in theatre arts. The teacher will provide students with opportunities to develop skills in acting, stage production, script analysis, and performance while fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence in alignment with Alabama Course of Study standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement engaging, standards-based theatre arts instruction
  • Teach acting techniques, voice, movement, improvisation, and script interpretation
  • Direct and produce school plays, performances, and showcases
  • Introduce students to stagecraft, including set design, lighting, sound, and costumes
  • Assess and monitor student progress; maintain accurate records
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive classroom and rehearsal environment
  • Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and Fine Arts Department personnel
  • Coordinate auditions, rehearsals, and performance schedules
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student participation and progress
  • Maintain theatre equipment, costumes, and inventory
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities
  • Support district and school initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of theatre arts, acting techniques, and stage production
  • Ability to direct student performances and manage productions
  • Effective classroom management and rehearsal leadership skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate diverse learners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to integrate technology into theatre instruction
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to stage and production environments

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Alabama Class B Professional Educator Certificate in Theatre Arts/Drama (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and pass required background checks
