Chief Architect

The City of Birmingham is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Chief Architect to provide advanced professional and administrative leadership within the Architecture Division of the Planning, Engineering and Permitting Department.

The Chief Architect oversees the planning, design, construction, and renovation of a wide range of City-owned building projects, many of which are developed in partnership with outside architectural consultants. This position provides expert guidance on complex architectural and technical matters, ensures compliance with applicable standards and requirements, and oversees construction and construction administration contracts.

In addition to providing technical leadership, the Chief Architect supervises Architects, Senior Plans Examiners, Plans Examiners, and other staff responsible for reviewing and processing architectural plans, permits, and related project activities. The position plays a key role in ensuring that City projects are delivered efficiently, effectively, and to the highest professional standards.
