Job Description

The School of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Curriculum & Instruction to begin July 2026. We seek a visionary, collaborative, and innovative leader with a strong scholarly record, administrative experience, and a commitment to excellence, equity, and engagement. The Chair provides strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, which includes diverse programs in educator preparation, school psychology, the learning sciences, and advanced degrees.

The Chair promotes a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and advocates for the department within the School, University, and broader educational community.

Required Qualifications

* An earned doctoral degree in an appropriate field of educator preparation.

* A record of accomplishments commensurate with a tenure track appointment at the rank of full professor.

* Demonstrated excellence in scholarship, teaching, and service.

* Successful academic administrative experience at the program or department level (or equivalent).

* Experience with promotion and tenure processes, including mentoring and evaluation.

* Knowledge of accreditation and assessment processes.
