Overview
The Walker County English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program Coordinator will contribute to developing ESOL programs in Jasper and Walker County, Alabama with a particular focus on developing a volunteer base and recruiting program participants. Responsibilities include collaborating with ESOL program staff on coordinating programs that teach English to non-native speakers, contributing to curriculum development, supporting volunteer teachers, assessing student progress, promoting parental involvement, and collaborating with school systems on individual learner needs.
The ESOL coordinator will support a diverse group of adult ESOL learners and families from a wide range of cultures and educational backgrounds. The ESOL Program Coordinator reports to the Director of ESOL Programs.
- Contribute to curriculum development, ESOL program development, and planned class activities to enhance learning acquisition and replicate real life scenarios
- Assist in conducting learner assessments
- Identify and recruit program partners and participants in conjunction with ESOL and TLC leadership
- Build partnerships within communities, businesses, and schools
- Maintain strong communication and working relationship with TLC staff and class site locations
- Maintain complete and accurate records including attendance, progress, and contact information
- Assist with special programs, projects or assignments as directed
- Perform backup tutoring as necessary for overall ESOL programs
- Make referrals for learners
- Represent TLC at community events
- Participate in professional development opportunities and staff activities
- Contribute to annual allocation report and grant reporting as needed
- Perform other agency duties as assigned
- Reside in Walker County or an adjacent county
- Reliable transportation and proficiency with Zoom, Google Classroom, and Microsoft 365
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent communication skills; ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people; action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
- Bilingual
- Experience in ESOL or adult education
- Experience working with diverse populations
Position type:
Hybrid, two-year, part-time grant-funded position with potential for extension. Some evenings and weekends required, some local travel required.
$20/hr.
