Job Title: Academic Interventionist (High School)
Location: i3 Academy High School Birmingham, AL
Reports To: Principal and/or Director of Student Support Services
Employment Type: Full-Time, 9-months (School Year)
The High School Academic Interventionist at i3 Academy High School provides targeted academic and behavioral support to students who are at risk of academic failure, credit deficiency, or disengagement. This role works closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families to implement evidence-based interventions aligned with the school's Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
The Interventionist uses data to identify student needs, delivers small‑group and individualized instruction, monitors progress, and supports students in building academic skills, executive functioning, and positive learning behaviors.
Key Responsibilities Student Academic Support- Provide targeted small‑group and one‑on‑one instruction in core subjects (primarily math, English, and credit recovery support)
- Support students with:
- Skill gaps
- Test preparation
- Organization and study strategies
- Credit recovery and course completion
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to align interventions with instructional goals and standards
- Implement research‑based intervention strategies and programs
- Participate in MTSS meetings and student support teams
- Use assessment data, grades, attendance, and behavior data to:
- Identify students in need of intervention
- Monitor progress
- Adjust intervention plans as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of intervention services and outcomes
- Support students in developing:
- Positive classroom behaviors
- Self‑regulation and goal‑setting skills
- Attendance and engagement habits
- Collaborate with counselors and administrators to support students with behavioral or attendance challenges
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and intervention plans
- Work closely with:
- Teachers
- Counselors
- Administrators
- Special education staff (when applicable)
- Support school‑wide academic improvement initiatives
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Intervention Services, Psychology, or related field
- Valid Alabama teaching certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
- Experience working with high school students in academic intervention, tutoring, or instructional support
- Strong knowledge of:
- Literacy and numeracy intervention strategies
- Data‑driven instruction
- MTSS/RTI frameworks
- Master's degree in Education, Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
- Experience in:
- Credit recovery programs
- Charter or urban school settings
- Supporting at‑risk or underserved populations
- Familiarity with educational assessment tools and progress monitoring systems
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills
- Ability to analyze student data and develop targeted intervention plans
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
