Samford University Athletics is seeking Graduate Assistants to support multiple operational areas within its Division I athletics program. Openings include positions in Content (3), Marketing & Fan Experience (1), and Broadcast (1).
OverviewGraduate Assistants will work closely with full-time athletics staff and student workers, contributing to daily operations, event execution, and long-term initiatives. These positions are designed to provide meaningful, hands‑on experience while allowing candidates to pursue graduate coursework at Samford University.
Appointment DetailsGraduate Assistant appointments are typically made on a one‑year basis, with the possibility of renewal for a second year depending on departmental needs, performance, and the length of the candidate’s graduate program.
CompensationGraduate Assistants may receive:
- Up to 18 graduate credit hours per academic year, with tuition support capped at a University‑determined dollar amount regardless of graduate program
- A second year of tuition support (up to an additional 18 credit hours) for candidates enrolled in a two‑year graduate program
- Note:
Tuition support amounts, caps, and terms are subject to change based on University policy and departmental approval. - A monthly stipend may be offered, but is not guaranteed for any Graduate Assistant position and is subject to budget approval.
- Assisting with content creation, marketing initiatives, fan engagement efforts, or live broadcast production
- Supporting game day operations, including nights and weekends
- Collaborating with athletics staff, coaches, and student workers
- Performing additional duties as assigned
- Graduate Assistants are expected to prioritize their responsibilities within the Athletics Department. Outside employment is permitted; however, Athletics Department responsibilities must come first. Failure to meet performance expectations or fulfill assigned duties may result in the loss of current and future Graduate Assistant support.
- Must be admitted to or currently enrolled in a graduate program at Samford University
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by athletic event schedules
- Strong organizational, communication, and time‑management skills
- Willingness to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment
- Ability to take direction, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple responsibilities
- Previous experience in athletics, media, marketing, or production is preferred but not required
