Position: STUDENT AFFAIRS SPECIALIST II

Key

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Assistant Director in implementing and assessing student programs and resources within the Office of Student Family Engagement.
  • Provide primary support for UAB's student organization community, serving both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide day‑to‑day oversight of the University's online involvement platform, Engage.
  • Directly responsible for all student organization registration and re‑registration processes, review of all student organization event submissions, and student organization support and training.
  • Directly advise Freshman Forum, a first‑year student organization within the Undergraduate Student Government Association.
  • Directly advise the UAB Pathfinders (involvement mentors), including their monthly Involvement Fair Programming.
  • Assist in the planning, development, coordination, and assessment of the following programs, including, but not limited to Connect Fest and Stress‑Less Week.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range

$35,570 – $42,000

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Sciences or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advising and student organization management.
  • Master's degree with a concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Leadership or a related field.
  • Exemplary organizational skills with a strong emphasis on details.
  • Experience in planning programs and events.
  • Ability to present workshops and training sessions that address harm reduction, membership recruitment, organization management, and event planning.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year.
  • Strong computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel and the Engage platform.
