Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an ACADEMIC ADVISOR I for the Collat School of Business. This position will provide timely and concise academic advising to students in the Department of Accounting and Finance in the Collat School of Business.
To understand the history and the role of academic advising in higher education. To understand core values and theories relevant to academic advising. To understand various approaches and methods in academic advising. To begin articulating personal philosophy of advising. To create rapport and maintain relationships with a basic level of ability. To provide guidance and advice to students on course selection, course prerequisites, career planning and continuing higher education.
To proactively identify and provide support to students who are not meeting the academic expectations of the program and the university.
(Annual Salary: $37,345 - $48,550)

- Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Preferred skills:
Attention to detail, ability to understand Academic curriculum requirements to efficiently move students toward graduation, ability to follow and retain instructions, good analytical skills, able to work with various student record systems, ability to adhere to privacy laws. Must have two (2) years of related experience in collegiate or high school academic advising. Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team.
Ability to effectively interact with college students.
