Position Summary
Upward Bound Tutors provide tutorial assistance, motivational support, and academic guidance in various subjects to students in grades 9-12. Tutors also provide mentorship to a cohort of students by serving as exemplary role models to ensure student academic, social and emotional growth.
This position is part-time. Salary
Schedule:
Local Salary Schedule/ Daily Rate of $57.20 for a maximum of 19 hours/week.
This is a grant‑funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon funding from the grant. Non‑probationary status is not attainable by employment in this position, the funding and duration of which are finite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide academic tutoring to students in specific courses of study such as STEM, Math, Science, English, Composition/Literature, Foreign Language, History, Computer Science and other high school requirements.
- Work with students on a one‑on‑one basis or in small groups related to STEM initiatives.
- Encourage and support students in a positive and enriching, innovative learning environment.
- Provide computer assistance with educational software programs in related subjects.
- Coordinate academic and study skill presentations and monitor student progress.
- Teach study skills that assist students in preparation for postsecondary education and careers in STEM professions.
- Serve as a positive role model.
- Mentor students in the areas of academics and college preparation.
- Associate’s Degree or at least one year of college with a minimum of 3.0 grade point average in STEM related subjects.
- Good interpersonal communication skills, sensitivity and the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Regular attendance.
