RN Clinical Educator – SON

The Nursing Clinical Educator supports undergraduate/pre‑licensure student learning experiences focused on mastery of competencies for clinical nursing practice. Under the supervision of designated faculty in the UAB School of Nursing, the Clinical Educator plans and implements learning experiences, and provides instruction, coaching, and evaluation of student achievement of competencies in student clinical practicums and clinical skills and simulation laboratory experiences. The individual collaborates with program faculty and skills/simulation lab staff in the development and implementation of planned clinical learning experiences for both the clinical setting and the clinical skills labs.

• Supervises students in clinical practicum experiences.
• Teaches in planned clinical skills/simulation lab sessions.
• Validates student mastery of required skills and clinical competencies.
• Prepares and sets up clinical lab experiences.
• Collaborates with program and course faculty to plan and deliver clinical learning experiences that meet student educational needs.
• Completes required training for the clinical educator role and maintains RN licensure in Alabama.
• Adheres to clinical facility requirements for faculty and students, and to undergraduate/pre‑licensure program policies.
• Provides direct supervision, instruction, coaching, and evaluation of students in all clinical learning experiences.
• Models professional standards of behavior for clinical practice.
• Supports simulation experiences, manages supplies and equipment inventory, and operates mannequins, simulators, and task trainers.
• Coaches students to develop skill mastery and validates student performance of skills according to set guidelines.
• Facilitates tours for recruiting faculty, prospective students, and high school students.
• Communicates equipment and supply needs to lab manager for coordination of purchase or repair.
• Performs other related duties as directed to support the missions of the School of Nursing.

Note:

This is not a remote position.

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; master’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Minimum one (1) year of clinical work experience in adult medical/surgical nursing required; work experience does not substitute for education requirement.
• Prior teaching experience preferred.
• Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
