Adjunct English Instructor

Position Summary:

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part-time/adjunct faculty for all subjects. This is an applicant pool; individuals will be hired as needed. Under general supervision, prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at the freshmen and sophomore levels and perform other duties associated with institutional effectiveness. Employment will be on an "as needed" basis, up to nine credit hours per semester.

Local salary schedule applies based on credentials.

Salary:
Local Salary Schedule (based on credentials and area of assignment) Academic Adjuncts (3 hrs.) – $1,683 per 3 credit course (MS/MA); $1,836 per 3 credit course (PhD/Ed.D.).

• Instruction:
  • Adhere to all requirements for the learning management system (Blackboard), including posting syllabi, announcements, calendars, assignments, and test dates.
  • Teach from current, job-relevant syllabi and training plan.
  • Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
  • Demonstrate safe use of equipment and include safety, health, and fire prevention in instruction.
  • Maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Supervise students and maintain discipline in class, lab, and shop.
  • Develop laboratory projects to relate theory to practical application.
  • Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term, including objectives, outline, evaluation methods, schedule, lab/shop rules, and required supplies.
  • Administer written and performance examinations to determine student progress and to provide final evaluations.
  • Record student progress in a system such as Blackboard.
  • Demand good work habits from students.
  • Submit an absence plan to the department chair or supervising administrators.
  • Communicate student progress according to established guidelines.
  • Supervise students in cooperative educational settings when applicable.
  • Respond to student requests promptly, usually within 24-48 hours.
  • Follow all regulations regarding online instruction when applicable.
  • Facilitate instructional methodologies for programs requiring industry chemicals/products.
• Recordkeeping:
  • Maintain a permanent roll and accurate attendance of students.
  • Submit attendance reports on time.
  • Follow the state and institution's grading system.
  • Submit grades each term by the due date.
  • Submit forms to the registrar for changes in student status.
  • Assist students in submitting the required documents for graduation.
• Enforcement of College Policies:
  • Participate in departmental orientation.
  • Communicate announcements as directed by administration.
  • Follow institutional and system policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Adhere to FERPA regulations and report violations.
  • Adhere to ADA accommodation requirements when presented with official documentation.

• Qualified applicants must hold a minimum of a Master’s degree, including 18 graduate semester hours (27 graduate quarter hours) in the teaching discipline.
• Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Academic Division in Language, Health & Physical Education/Science, Math, Social Science, or Business.
