Position Summary

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at The University of Alabama is seeking a full-time, clinical assistant professor of secondary social studies education (grades 6-12).

Detailed Position Information

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at The University of Alabama is seeking a full-time, clinical assistant professor of secondary social studies education (grades 6-12). The University of Alabama is a Research I institution with considerable emphasis on recruiting productive scholars and effective instructors. This is a nine-month, non-tenure earning position with a contract of three years, eligible for renewal.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses focused on grades 6-12 social studies education
  • Teach graduate courses focused on grades P-12 social studies education
  • Supervise practicum and internship experiences as needed
  • Collaborate in further development of innovative undergraduate and graduate grades P-12 social studies education courses and programs
  • Collaborate with local schools and school systems
  • Provide service within the University, to state and local education agencies, and to relevant professional organizations
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students

Start date will be August 16, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned Doctorate in Secondary Social Studies Education;
Secondary Education or Curriculum and Instruction with social studies focus Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate social studies education courses in the Secondary Education program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students and interns Ability to provide service within the University, to state and local education agencies, and to relevant professional organizations Demonstrated potential to collaborate in secondary schools through partnership activities Demonstrated expertise in research-based, ambitious, and equitable social studies instruction Demonstrated professional experience with secondary students of at least 4 years;

experience teaching university social studies education courses is desirable
