Director Of Student Conduct And Title IX Coordinator

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the dual position of Director of Student Conduct and Title IX Coordinator provides: general oversight for all student conduct issues in the student code of conduct, including issues pertaining to student misconduct and academic integrity; and management, training, prevention and education concerning the Samford University Sexual Misconduct Policy (the "Sexual Misconduct Policy") and Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 and its corresponding regulations and Department of Education guidance.

The position provides leadership in the development, implementation, and administration of policies and procedures to promote a respectful campus community, as well as leadership in University-wide Title IX planning, monitoring, reporting, grievance procedures, education, prevention, and training efforts.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Administrative management of the student code of conduct
  • Collaborating with and advising appropriate staff on matters of student conduct policies and practice
  • Ensuring proper responses and fair and equitable investigations by the University with respect to student conduct as necessary, including allegations of sexual harassment and matters implicating Title IX and the Sexual Misconduct Policy
  • Developing University programs and strategic initiatives related to University student conduct codes
  • Serving as the University's Title IX Coordinator
  • Managing and implementing the University's investigations and grievance processes as prescribed by student code of conduct and the Sexual Misconduct Policy
  • Ensuring adherence to all applicable statutes, regulations, administrative guidance, and internal policies and procedures
  • Maintaining knowledge of current regulations and trends in higher education related to Title IX
  • Possessing in-depth knowledge of the latest legal and regulatory developments concerning student conduct and discipline
  • Identifying trends and potential issues concerning Title IX and other student conduct issues in existing processes and working with appropriate University stakeholders to improve those processes
  • Identifying, recruiting, enlisting and providing training for University employees to fulfill leadership roles in applicable student conduct procedures, including, without limitation, the Sexual Misconduct Policy
  • Creating, updating, and documenting University policies and procedures relating to Title IX, the Sexual Misconduct Policy and other student conduct codes consistent with University processes
  • Periodically conducting and providing for the review of applicable University policies and procedures
  • Assisting in the collection of data for the distribution of the Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report (Clery Report).

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or an advanced degree in a related field, or a bachelor's degree together with a minimum of three years of experience in Title IX and/or oversight of conduct related complaint investigations, processes, or hearings.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of current, relevant state and federal laws and regulations, institution-specific policies, practices, and procedures, identified best practices, and trends in the field of education related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation practices that concern Title IX, the Clery Act, and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication, reading, training, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality, work with frequent interruptions, and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Physical ability to facilitate presentations for extended periods of time (such as may be needed for student orientation and training sessions)
  • Physical ability to lift and move boxes and materials (5-10 pounds)
  • Ability to work extended hours (nights and weekends) when needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
