Certified Schedule 16 (Level 1-4) ($49,080 - $93,875) Depending on degree level (recognized by ALSDE)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Choral Music Teacher/Choir Director is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality choral music instruction for middle and/or high school students. The teacher will develop students' vocal technique, music literacy, and performance skills while fostering an appreciation for choral music aligned with Alabama Course of Study standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement engaging, standards-based choral instruction
- Teach vocal techniques, sight-reading, music theory, and ensemble performance skills
- Select appropriate choral literature for diverse student populations
- Direct school choirs and coordinate performances, concerts, and events
- Prepare students for district, state, and community performances and assessments
- Assess and monitor student progress; maintain accurate records
- Establish and maintain a structured, positive rehearsal and classroom environment
- Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and Fine Arts Department personnel
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and participation
- Manage choir materials, uniforms, sheet music, and inventory
- Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities
- Support district and school initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of choral music pedagogy and vocal techniques
- Ability to conduct ensembles and rehearse effectively
- Proficiency in music literacy and sight-reading instruction
- Ability to engage and motivate students at varying skill levels
- Strong classroom and rehearsal management skills
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to integrate technology into music instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or related field from an accredited college or university
- Valid Alabama Class B Professional Educator Certificate in Music (or eligibility to obtain)
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and pass required background checks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience directing middle and/or high school choirs
- Piano proficiency and ability to accompany rehearsals
- Experience preparing students for honor choirs, assessments, or adjudicated performances
- Strong background in vocal performance and/or choral conducting
