Position: 2026-27 Teacher - Enrichment (K-5)
Enrichment Teacher
Job Goal:
To coordinate the development and implementation of enrichment services to provide students with advanced learning and enrichment activities, experiences, and opportunities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Alabama teacher's certificate with endorsement in gifted education
- Experience in a school setting as a regular classroom teacher or gifted/enrichment teacher Experience with and/or knowledge of the School wide Enrichment Model
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
- Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No.
- Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and prioritiesCoordinates the implementation of the School wide Enrichment ModelTrains teachers in the implementation of the second-grade screening referral processAssists teachers in implementing second-grade lessons used in the screening referral processCoordinates the referral process for the enrichment programCollaborates with other enrichment teachers to implement an enrichment program district wide that is equitable in quality and quantityMeets on a regularly scheduled basis with students identified as having behaviors that reflect above-average ability, high levels of task commitment, and high levels of creative thinkingIdentifies areas of student strengths and weaknesses and plans concept-based learning experiences and activitiesSets up problems, experiments, projects, and activities related to student needs, interests, and capabilitiesDevelops appropriate learning experiences with a variety of curricular options, strategies, materials, and topics of student choice for enrichment studentsCollaborates with general education teachers to adapt, modify, and replace (differentiate) curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of enrichment students within the regular classroom settingConsults with general education teachers to enable (assist) them to provide enrichment opportunities to all studentsAssists general education teachers in securing resources to enrich the curriculumFacilitates students in the preparation and implementation of independent study projects in the area of interest and/or competenceProvides training to teachers in various areas of enrichment, such as characteristics of gifted learners, curriculum compacting, the four parallels of curriculum (core, connections, practice, and identity), concept-based curriculum, Type I, II, and III activities, etc.Coordinates the implementation of enrichment clusters when appropriateFacilitates the School wide Enrichment Team comprised of teachers, parents, community resources/agencies/personnel to assist in coordinating Type I, II, and III activitiesActively engages in ongoing, continuous professional learningUses and maintains confidential information in accordance with state and federal law and local Board policyPractices safe, responsible, legal, and ethical use of technology following the Hoover City Schools' Acceptable Use AgreementMaintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate mannerProperly cares for equipment and material resources of the school systemComplies with local and state regulations regarding gifted/enrichment records, reports, and servicesCooperates in all teacher regulations and responsibilities in the local school.Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local lawsPerforms other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
