I3 Elementary Media Specialist

Create a media center which is the hub of learning in the school by developing a school library media program which emphasizes the integrated use of technology. Instruct students and staff in effective use of the media center, information and technology literacy skills, and use of equipment while providing leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction.

Develop a school library media program that addresses 21st century skills, including learning and innovation, and information, media, and technology literacy. Evaluate support staff, which may include educational media assistants, computer education assistants, paraprofessionals, and student assistants, and communicate regularly with supervisors regarding the strengths, needs, and overall effectiveness of the Media Center and its programs. Maintain frequent and timely communication with stakeholders through an effective online school library media program presence and other formats such as presentations, e-mail, newsletters, reports, and articles.

Prepare a program budget that supports the school library media program goals. Collect and analyze data to periodically evaluate the school library media program for continuous improvement against measurable goals and communicate program results with administrators, staff, and the community. Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, students, and teaching and learning styles inherent within the school community.

Implement and maintain automated catalog, circulation system, and textbook check-out services, including student obligations and responsibilities for material. Work as an instructional partner by collaborating with teaching staff in preparing and delivering lessons that incorporate effective and appropriate use of technology and information resources, while building information literacy and reading skills. Establish annual and long-term measurable goals for the school library media program that are aligned with the district and school mission and objectives.

Cooperate and network with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide expanded access to resources for students and teachers. Instruct students and staff in information and technology literacy skills, including reading for understanding, the research process, engaging inquiry, collaboration, critical thinking, developing multiple literacies, and understanding copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, as well as supporting ELA (English Language Arts) and Library Media Science standards and instructional practices.

Actively promote reading, information literacy skills, and information resources with administrators, teachers, and Reading Coach. Create and maintain a school library center that provides a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, readily accessible, and conducive to student learning. Work with the Director of Technology & Technology Team on troubleshooting local technology matters. Serve as the local school technology committee contact.

Troubleshoot software and hardware problems prior to and after the submission of online trouble tickets. Maintain the local School "Hub". Responds and collaborates with local school administration, Network Support Leadership, and colleagues in a reasonable time frame. Maintain and update classroom technology hardware inventory on a regular basis, including replacing broken student devices with loaner devices, updating cart management documents as outlined in the procedures.

Oversee and assist with the in-house iPad/ Chromebook inventory, distribution, and collection of iPad Chromebook devices as outlined by the Director of Technology. Report missing and stolen iPad/ Chromebook devices and assist with recovery. Help students troubleshoot iPad/ Chromebook devices and other technology issues when applicable. Notify the Director of Technology when accounts need to be reset or deactivated. Attend regularly scheduled Network Technology Team meetings and Technology Committee Meetings.

Support and follow up with new teachers on the use of software, equipment, and implementation of technology procedures. Facilitate local PLCs as planned by the Director of Technology. Facilitate faculty and staff completion of technology surveys and other required surveys as communicated by the Director of Technology. Assist the Director of Technology with gathering information from teachers concerning equipment needs, issues, etc.

using the End of Year Survey Data. Disseminate information to school staff as communicated by the Director of Technology. Maintain and utilize procedures outlined in the Media Specialist/ Technology Lead Google Folder. Reporting network and wireless issues, power outages, lightning damage, etc.
