Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is currently looking for degreed and experienced Training Developers to fill contract positions in Birmingham, AL. The positions are hybrid with 4 days in office and 1 day remote. Local candidates are highly preferred. In addition to an updated resume, a work portfolio is required. This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.

Estimated start date is 08/03/2026 and estimated assignment duration is 4 – 8 months.

Position Summary

A Training Developer 3, Instructional Design, is a highly experienced professional responsible for leading the design and development of complex, enterprise-level training programs that support strategic business objectives. With 10–15 years of experience, this role partners closely with senior stakeholders, L&D consultants, and subject matter experts to analyze training needs, define learning strategies, and develop comprehensive solutions that drive measurable performance outcomes.

This position applies advanced instructional design methodologies, learning technologies, and adult learning principles to develop scalable instructor-led, eLearning, and blended learning solutions. The role independently leads large or high-impact course development initiatives, aligning instructional strategies to business needs while adhering to established design standards, templates, and governance requirements.

Position Qualifications

Education &

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, instructional design, human resources, or a related field preferred, with relevant certifications in training and instructional design highly desirable.

Instructional Design

Experience:

Requires 10+ years of experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development, with a proven track record of designing and delivering effective, high-impact training solutions. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and assessment techniques, with the ability to translate complex technical, soft skill, or industry-specific content into clear, accurate, and learner-centered training materials.

Communication & Collaboration

Skills:

Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills and effectively engages with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to drive alignment and deliver results.

Technology Proficiency:
Demonstrates advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint and Word), Adobe Acrobat Pro, voice-over tools, SharePoint, and Learning Management Systems, and is required to have experience using eLearning authoring tools to design and develop digital learning solutions, with Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) preferred.

Responsibilities Include

Collaborates with L&D consultants, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to analyze training needs, define learning strategies, validate technical content, and recommend effective instructional approaches for complex or high-visibility projects.

Applies advanced instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, assessment strategies, and learning technologies to develop scalable instructor-led, eLearning, blended learning, and digital learning solutions aligned to organizational goals, standards, accessibility requirements, and governance expectations.

Serves as the primary instructional design resource for complex initiatives, independently leading development of advanced learning solutions, including scenario-based training, branching simulations, interactive assessments, gamified experiences, and decision-based learning.

Designs and develops comprehensive instructional materials, including instructor-led presentations, participant and instructor guides, job aids, reference materials, and assessments, while structuring and sequencing curricula to meet defined learning objectives and diverse audience needs.
