The Chair will support the School’s mission and vision by creating novel strategies to sustain and grow the Department and enhance research and education. The Chair will assess gaps, identify future opportunities, provide strategic leadership, represent the department within the School and the UAB enterprise, create collaboration opportunities, and work in support of institutional goals.
Required Qualifications- Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D.
- Academic rank of Professor.
- Accomplished leader in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science with a demonstrated ability to build programs that develop and apply cutting‑edge biomedical informatics and AI technologies to healthcare applications.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with leaders of various backgrounds and interests.
- Competency navigating interactions with the educational, research, and service missions of a complex academic medical center department.
- Proven capabilities in financial stewardship, budget management and resource allocation.
- Compelling vision for building an internationally recognized, research‑oriented department of biomedical informatics and data sciences that is a top choice for undergraduate and graduate education.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, a style that supports change and innovation, a commitment to research and educational missions, genuine appreciation for consultation and collaboration, and a personal style that fosters and supports innovation.
