Adjunct Machine Tool Instructor

Position Summary

Lawson State Community College is accepting applications for part‑time/adjunct faculty for all subjects. Individuals will be hired as needed.

Employed on an As Needed basis; local salary schedule in accordance with documented academic credentials and/or educational experiences; not to exceed nine credit hours per semester. All exceptions must be approved by the Vice President for Instruction.

Local Salary Schedule (based on credentials and area of assignment):

• Technical Adjuncts (1‑3 years of experience): $20.40‑$22.44 per hour
• Technical Adjuncts (4+ years of experience): $23.46 per hour

• Prepare and deliver instruction for credited academic and technical courses at freshman and sophomore levels using Blackboard and other platforms.
• Adhere to current job-relevant course syllabi and training plan.
• Supplement lectures and demonstrations with multimedia materials.
• Demonstrate to students the safe use of equipment and include safety, health, and fire prevention as part of instruction.
• Maintain an environment conducive to learning.
• Supervise and maintain discipline within class, lab, and shop.
• Develop laboratory projects for theory-to-practice applications.
• Distribute a current syllabus at the beginning of each term covering objectives, outline, evaluation methods, schedule, lab/shop rules, and required books/supplies.
• Administer written and performance examinations to determine progress.
• Implement a system for recording student progress.
• Teach and enforce good work habits.
• Submit a plan for absence to the department chair and supervising administrators.
• Communicate student progress to students and personnel per guidelines.
• Supervise students in cooperative educational settings when applicable.
• Respond to student requests promptly, usually within 24‑48 hours.
• Follow regulations regarding online instruction when applicable.
• Maintain permanent roll and accurate attendance of students.
• Submit attendance reports as required on time.
• Follow state and institution grading system and submit grades each term by due date.
• Submit forms to registrar when changes occur in student status.
• Assist students in submitting required documents for graduation.
• Participate in departmental orientation.
• Communicate student announcements as directed by administration.
• Follow institutional and System policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Adhere to FERPA regulations and report violations.
• Adhere to ADA accommodation requirements.

Technical Division disciplines:
Drafting & Design, Electronics, Cosmetology (Alabama license required), Culinary Arts, Automotive Service Technology, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration, Entertainment Media Production, Machine Tool Technology, Welding, Plumbing, Barbering, Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy Technician.

Instructors must hold a minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in the teaching discipline and have three (3) years of successful full‑time experience as a practitioner in the field.
