A mainstream primary school is looking for a Teaching Assistant (TA) to work on a 1:1 basis with an autistic child who will be starting at the school in Year 2 from September this year. The school is keen to get the right person in place, someone who is dedicated to supporting the child to engage in their learning and support the child's personal development.
It is likely that with the correct support the child will be able to stay enrolled at the school until he leaves in year 6, making this an opportunity for a TA who is looking for a long-term role and potentially a permanent contract directly with a school.
The child has a lead diagnosis of Autism and also has additional needs. As they will be going into Year 2 the child will be 6 years old before the start of the academic year. The child’s specific needs include:
- Pre-verbal, uses visual communication aids (Speech, Language and Communication, SLCN)
- Behaviour that challenges
- Emotional Dysregulation
- Sensory Dysregulation
- Working on a 1:1 basis with a 6-7 year old Autistic child with additional needs (SLCN, emotional and sensory dysregulation, behaviour that challenges)
- Supporting learning and development in all areas
- Providing feedback to the teacher and parents
- Experience in supporting complex, autistic children
- Experience working with high needs individuals
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Dedication and resilience
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or we can put one in place for you)
- Two satisfactory references covering a minimum of two years
