Position: VISUAL ARTS TEACHER POOL - 2026-2027 SY

Visual Arts Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Work Days: 9 Months (187 days)

Salary: Certified Schedule 16 (Level 1-4) ($49,080 - $93,875) Depending on degree level (recognized by ALSDE)

Location: Various Locations

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Description

The Visual Arts Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality visual arts instruction to students. The teacher will provide opportunities for students to develop artistic skills, creativity, and an appreciation for the visual arts through a variety of media and techniques aligned with Alabama Course of Study standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement engaging, standards-based visual arts instruction
  • Teach elements and principles of design, drawing, painting, sculpture, and other media
  • Foster creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression
  • Organize and display student artwork in classrooms, schools, and exhibitions
  • Assess and monitor student progress; maintain accurate records
  • Establish and maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment
  • Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and Fine Arts Department personnel
  • Maintain art supplies, equipment, and inventory
  • Ensure proper use and safety of art materials and tools
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school activities
  • Support district and school initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of visual arts concepts, techniques, and instructional strategies
  • Ability to teach a variety of art media and adapt instruction for diverse learners
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to foster creativity and student engagement
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to art materials and equipment
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Art Education or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Alabama Class B Professional Educator Certificate in Visual Arts (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and pass required background checks
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching visual arts at the elementary or middle school level
  • Experience with a variety of art media (painting, ceramics, digital art)
  • Experience organizing student exhibitions or art showcases
  • Strong background in studio art and/or art education
