Position Summary

The tutor provides supplemental academic tutoring support in mathematics to eligible TRIO SSS participants. This role supports student retention, persistence, and graduation through structured individual and small‑group tutoring aligned with institutional curricula and TRIO program objectives.
This is not a teaching or grading position. The instructor does not deliver classroom instruction or assign grades. All services are supplemental and designed to reinforce course content and promote independent learning.
Salary Schedule Placement:
Local Salary Schedule $20.15 per hour up to 19 hours per week
This is a grant‑funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon funding from the grant. Non‑probationary status is not attainable by employment in this position, the funding and duration of which are finite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide individual and small‑group tutoring in mathematics to TRIO SSS participants.
- Assist students in developing effective study skills, time management strategies, note‑taking techniques, and academic confidence.
- Support students in understanding course material, improving writing mechanics, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
- Monitor student academic progress and communicate concerns or recommendations to the TRIO SSS professional staff.
- Encourage eligible students to engage with TRIO SSS services through referrals and outreach as directed by the Project Director.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of tutoring services, student contacts, and academic progress in the Blumen database in compliance with TRIO SSS reporting.
- Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development related to TRIO regulations, student success strategies, and data reporting.
- Adhere to all institutional policies, federal TRIO guidelines, and confidentiality standards.
- Maintain accurate time and effort documentation in accordance with federal grant requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support TRIO SSS program goals.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Reading, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching or tutoring experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with first‑generation, low‑income, and/or students with disabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computer applications and willingness to learn TRIO‑specific data systems.
- Strong content knowledge in mathematics and the ability to clearly explain concepts.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly related to documentation and compliance.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a federally regulated, team‑based environment.
- Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on student and program needs (up to 19 hours per week).
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while providing tutoring services.
- Ability to use a computer and related technology for documentation and data entry.
- Ability to lift or carry light materials (up to 10 pounds).
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
