Job Description

The Department of Marketing, Industrial Distribution and Economics ( MIDE ) within the Collat School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks applicants for a full-time Instructor (non-tenure track) to teach courses in the field of Business Law to begin in the Fall 2026. The Collat School of Business, located in the heart of Alabama’s business center, moved into a new, state of the art building in the Fall of 2018.

The new building provides a platform for innovative content delivery along with classrooms designed for faculty and student collaboration. The Collat School of Business offers an engaging learning environment with classrooms that extend well beyond the walls of the UAB campus. Our unique location allows our faculty to integrate the practical experiences of the State’s leading companies—from Fortune 500 corporations to entrepreneurial startups—into the programs we offer.

Our students gain valuable, real-world experience through a wide variety of internships and other opportunities in the business community.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should (1) currently hold a JD, (2) hold a current license to practice law and be in good standing with the Alabama Bar Association, (3) have extensive practical experience (10 or more years) working in general corporate law, contract law, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property law, and (4) have a commitment and dedication to teaching excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in a variety of legal studies courses related to the business environment and other courses as requested.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred applicants will have (1) At least 10 years experience teaching business law courses in both face to face and online formats, (2) experience teaching in Law Schools, (3) experience working in Canvas, using Zoom, and have the video production for online courses, (4) experience in development of and obtaining Quality Matters Certification for online course, and (4) publication in reputable law review and/or textbook contributions.
