Job Description:
This is a 2-year grant funded position. The main objective of this Instructional Coach is to partner with teachers to improve teaching practices and increase student achievement by modeling lessons, analyzing data, participating in and/or facilitating professional development and collaborating with administration to ensure student success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide content-specific instructional coaching with implementing evidence-based strategies
- Engage in co-teaching with classroom teachers to support student engagement development
- Model the implementation of evidence-based instructional interventions
- Assist with modeling the use of formative assessments
- Facilitate timely date collection, analysis, and data-driven interventions
- Support the development of processes for timely tiered instructional supports
- Provide ongoing embedded professional development with MTSS practices
- Model examples of engaging and relevant instructional practices
- Assist with developing effective instructional and student observation processes and feedback
- Participate with PLC, ILT, and PST data meetings
- Assist with engaging stakeholders in ongoing data-driven decisions and trainings
- Perform other duties as assigned
This position is a temporary appointment/assignment which will end June 30, 2028. This position is not permanent. Applicants selected for this position will not gain tenure in Birmingham City Schools. Current employees selected for this position agree to waive all due process rights.
Qualifications:
- Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate
- At least 5 years classroom teaching experience
- Experience both at elementary and secondary levels preferred

- Master's degree in Education
- Leadership experience coaching teachers and/or leading professional development

- Excellent writing and public speaking skills
- Outstanding organizational and planning abilities
- Strong ability to work effectively with individuals and groups
- Knowledgeable in the area of best evidence-based instructional methods and strategies
