Brooksource is seeking a Performance Test Engineer to support one of the nation's largest energy providers. This individual will play a critical role in evaluating and improving the performance, efficiency, and reliability of power generation assets across a diverse fleet of fossil, gas turbine, combined cycle, and nuclear generating facilities.
This opportunity is ideal for engineers with a strong foundation in power generation, thermodynamics, plant performance analysis, or gas turbine systems who enjoy solving complex operational challenges and working directly with plant personnel.
Responsibilities- Direct and perform performance testing of gas turbine, combined cycle, fossil, and nuclear generating units.
- Analyze plant heat rate, capacity, efficiency, and overall cycle performance.
- Investigate and troubleshoot performance-related issues impacting generation output and plant efficiency.
- Evaluate major equipment including gas turbines, steam turbines, feedwater heaters, condensers, cooling towers, pumps, and related systems.
- Collect and analyze field test data using specialized data acquisition systems and plant monitoring tools.
- Monitor plant performance trends through remote plant computer interfaces and data analysis platforms.
- Develop recommendations to improve plant performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Utilize computer modeling tools and simulations to evaluate plant operating conditions and performance scenarios.
- Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to plant personnel, engineering teams, and leadership.
- Travel to generating facilities to support testing, analysis, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience working in power generation or industrial plant environments.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, power generation cycles, and plant performance principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to travel up to 25–50% and work in industrial power plant environments.
- Experience with gas turbine or combined cycle plant performance testing.
- Knowledge of plant heat rate analysis and efficiency optimization.
- Familiarity with ASME Performance Test Codes (PTC 22, PTC 46, and related standards).
- Experience with power plant performance modeling and simulation software.
- Experience with Excel macros, VBA, or other programming tools.
- Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
