Field/Service Technician
Position Summary
The Service Advisor's primary job is to consult with customers about their servicing needs and sell them servicing solutions.
Service Advisors sell and coordinate services for customers, including meeting customers, listening to their concerns about their equipment/implements, suggesting appropriate repair and maintenance services, working with selling of new accessories or replacement parts, recording service orders, following up with customers as the services are performed and explaining the repair and maintenance work after completion.
Essential Responsibilities & Expectations- Serves as primary customer contact for repair scheduling
- Generate quotations and estimates
- Effectively communicate with Service Department personnel to address customer needs
- Assign jobs to shop technicians and dispatch field service technicians
- Open and properly segment work orders applying correct codes and tax information
- Handle closing of work orders in a timely fashion
- Coordinate with other sales personnel on customer machines in the shop and serve as the main point of contact for the service contract
- Obtain purchase orders from customers as required
- Maintain a work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that represents the Thompson Tractor brand, demonstrating how to get along with customers, clients, vendors, and co‑workers at all levels of the company
- Regular attendance required
Education:
High school diploma or the equivalent required; associate’s degree preferred.
Experience:
7+ years of customer sales and/or service; experience working as a Service Technician preferred; experience using personal computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and basic typing skills required.

- Vendor technical sites (Infocast, SIMSi, Independent Truck Network SharePoint site)

- Work is typically performed in a service department shop office or shop environment.
- Exposure to physical risk and variable weather conditions is associated with this position.
- Standing on hard surfaces for extended periods is often required.
- Risks associated with working in proximity to an industrial environment, including in the general area where work is performed on heavy equipment.
- Ability to speak, listen, write, and type effectively.
- Ability to safely grasp, stoop, kneel, and climb as required.
- Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs as required.
- Ability to safely crawl on and under heavy equipment as required.
