Talon Hiring Solutions has a client that is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in the Greater Birmingham, AL area to support the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for industrial automation projects. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality, efficient, and innovative solutions that directly impact project performance, lead times, and customer satisfaction.

What You’ll Do

  • Design mechanical systems and components using Solid Works or similar 3D CAD software
  • Produce detailed fabrication drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards and safety regulations
  • Support projects through design, build, and commissioning phases
  • Collaborate closely with controls, electrical, and applications engineers to deliver fully integrated automation solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during installation and field implementation
  • Participate in engineering design reviews to identify risks, inefficiencies, or improvement opportunities
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of existing mechanical designs and standards
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, and revision records
  • Communicate technical information clearly with vendors, customers, and internal teams
  • Assist the Mechanical Manager with documenting and refining mechanical design standards

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical design within an industrial, manufacturing, or automation environment
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Solid Works preferred)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing methods
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics
  • Experience with troubleshooting and hands-on problem solving
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, team-oriented engineering environment
  • Experience with automation systems, robotics, or industrial equipment design
  • Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and structural design principles
  • Solid Works Certification (CSWA or CSWP)
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour certification
