The job:

The Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Design Manager is responsible for leading a dynamic team responsible for the design of electrical, instrumentation and control systems for industrial projects. Your expertise in electrical engineering will drive the development of design standards, processes, and templates, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.

As the EI&C Design Department Manager, you will provide guidance, training, and support to the design department engineering teams while taking an active role in leading the development and implementation of design projects. You will establish best-in-class practices and methods while developing the skills and talents of others.

What will you do in this role:

  • Manage and oversee the electrical and instrumentation design department’s daily operations.
  • Lead project planning and coordination efforts, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high quality standards.
  • Develop and implement departmental strategies and procedures.
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment including annual performance reviews.
  • Coordinate with the Automation Department, Project Management, and project teams to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Oversee the creation of detailed design documents, schematics, and specifications.
  • Manage client interactions, including project proposals, updates, and final reporting.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design methodologies and workflows.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Engineering to assist with scopes of engineering services and assign personnel to meet project schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Engineering on department goals, resource needs, and interview potential hires.
  • Review and approve departmental deliverables and reports.
  • Assist with maintaining the Engineering software tools and licenses.
  • Support procurement and administrative processes as needed.

Experience, Educational and Ability Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable and may be required.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electrical and instrumentation design, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., NFPA, IEEE, ISA, IEC, ANSI).
  • Proficient with design software and tools relevant to electrical and I&C engineering.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a fast-paced environment.
