Sr. Mechanical Designer

Long-term contract in Birmingham, AL. Very competitive pay, time and a half for OT, Mob/Demob, and strong per diem.

Join this fast-growing design engineering firm, which will be adding 150 people in the next 18 months. The work involves designing simple‑cycle gas turbine plants to support the energy demand from data centers. • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer‑Aided Drafting.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in mechanical design within industrial or power generation environments.
• Experience with P&IDs, equipment layout, pipeline specs, material take‑offs, piping isometrics.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Plant 3D, as well as Microsoft products.
• Strong understanding of piping materials and specifications, pipe support and restraint systems, manual valve sizing and application.
• Ability to read and interpret vendor drawings and apply them in the design of construction‑ready documents.
• Familiarity with EPC workflows and inter‑discipline coordination.

• Interpret and apply project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
• Develop piping designs based on P&IDs, General Arrangements (GAs), equipment layouts, piping specifications, and inline instrumentation.
• Prepare Material Take‑Offs (MTOs) and support procurement activities.
• Perform field design work to verify existing conditions and coordinate with client personnel.
• Assist in the development of construction packages, including installation drawings, piping isometrics support details, and bill of materials.
• Support site activities during construction and startup phases.
• Identify and communicate scope changes and design updates.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure design integration and alignment.
