Position: Civil Infrastructure Engineer (Development)

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to concept studies, strategies, and drawing packages leading to planning applications, technical approval submissions, and construction issue resolution.
  • Work on all types of development projects across all sectors and clients.
  • Manage multiple varied projects simultaneously.
  • Receive support from the Birmingham team to develop technical capabilities and support career progression.
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and design teams, acting as liaison internally and with external partners.
  • Ensure tasks are delivered within budget, on schedule, meeting technical standards and legal requirements.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment and management, and utility design and planning.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics, building structures, and construction design stages.
  • Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings under supervision.
  • Familiarity with design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance, and experience preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills and up‑to‑date awareness of technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability.
  • Proficiency in relevant software including Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or PDS.
  • Experience liaising with clients, co‑professionals, design teams, and statutory authorities to negotiate necessary outline and detailed technical approvals and statutory agreements for development projects.
  • Knowledge of the relevant legal processes, planning, design, and technical consent procedures, as well as contract and funding aspects of planning, bidding, and delivery of large and small projects.
  • Post‑graduate degree (or equivalent) and experience working towards Chartered status, or equivalent experience and responsibility.
