Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop engineering analyses, calculations, and design packages for electrical power and I&C systems
- Design and implement fleet‑wide and site‑specific plant modifications supporting major capital and modernization projects
- Perform and oversee power system studies, including load flow, short‑circuit, motor starting, and dynamic response analyses
- Support digital control systems, including PLC‑based platforms, industrial networks, and plant software systems
- Provide engineering support for real‑time plant issues, troubleshooting, and emergent problem resolution
- Develop technical specifications, evaluate vendor proposals, and support procurement and vendor oversight
- Ensure design integrity through configuration management, setpoint control, and design basis maintenance
- Support regulatory‑driven design processes in accordance with Southern Nuclear engineering standards
- Electrical power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP or equivalent)
- Industrial Control Systems (ICS), PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and digital plant platforms
- Software‑based engineering tools supporting nuclear design and configuration control
- Rigorous nuclear quality, documentation, and change‑management processes
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program
- 3+ years of experience in electrical, digital, or I&C engineering
- Experience developing engineering design modifications in industrial or power generation environments
- Working knowledge of power system behavior, including fault analysis and dynamic response
- Experience using ETAP or similar electrical modeling tools
- Familiarity with industrial control systems or digital plant infrastructure
- Exposure to nuclear, power generation, or other highly regulated industries
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues
- Ability to lead small technical efforts or engineering initiatives
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines, including operations, digital, cyber, and project teams
- Curiosity and initiative to evaluate and implement emerging technologies
- Primary location:
Birmingham Energy Center - Alternate Southern Nuclear locations may be considered based on candidate
- Travel up to 25% to support Plant Farley and fleet implementation activities
