Substation Physical Designer

Overview

The Substation Physical Designer position requires 5-7 years of related experience and an accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or an associate degree.

• Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for transmission and distribution substation projects.
• Ensure safety, quality, scheduling, and cost objectives are met.
• Prioritize safety through a safety-first mindset.
• Deliver high-quality design packages on time.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior design personnel.
• Coordinate with Substation Field Services, Project Management, and other project stakeholders.
• Communicate with associated departments and support design criteria and standardization efforts.
• Assist with storm restoration activities.

• 5‑7 years of experience in substation design.
• Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or an associate degree.
• Basic discipline knowledge and strong problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions with supervisory review.
• Proficiency in Physical Design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, TEAMS, Stomps, SCST Vault, Maximo).
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff, and vendors.
