Harbison Walker International is the largest supplier of refractory products and services in the United States.
This position will travel to complete projects at various HWI plant manufacturing sites within Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, and Oklahoma. Additional HWI plant manufacturing site locations include Missouri, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Travel is expected to be up to 50%.
SummaryThe Process Engineering II will analyze processes and use best practices to plan, develop, budget, and execute improvement initiatives that reduce costs and improve safety and quality. The role supports multiple manufacturing facilities and interfaces with outside commercial customers.
Responsibilities- Apply engineering techniques to analyze and improve manufacturing processes and products in coordination with HWI’s Lean and HBS efforts; improve efficiency, minimize inconsistencies, avoid waste, and reduce downtime to drive improvements in OEE.
- Lead, facilitate, execute, and manage projects (process and capital) to reduce costs and improve the customer experience by implementing engineering best practices and Lean/Six Sigma tools; conduct periodic reviews to ensure desired results.
- Work with Operations to develop best practices and standard work to solve manufacturing problems, initiate productivity improvements, drive maintenance excellence initiatives, and identify future opportunities for overall continual improvement of the plant; review plant KPI monitoring systems.
- Prepare accurate expenditure proposals and cost justification analysis under management guidance; present findings to plant and corporate management.
- Assemble reports to document process status and changes.
- Provide training, instructions, systems, and consultation to site production, maintenance, and engineering personnel to support technical development and assure integration of programs for continuous improvement.
- B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
- Motivation and integrity; excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including presentation planning and delivery.
- Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel and PowerPoint expertise, and AutoCAD engineering software.
- Experience using lean and continuous improvement methodology.
- Strong strategic thinking and business problem-solving skills.
- Collaboration, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills with a track record of making improvements that benefit organizational results and customers.
- Relationship building and change management skills.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and similar achievement standards.
- Ability to lead change initiatives and drive process excellence.
- Experience with data analysis, operations management, and business intelligence tools.
- Coaching skills with front line employees and supervisors.
