Garver's Transportation Design Center, an integrated team focusing on bridge projects, inspections, and load ratings, is hiring a Bridge Inspection Team Leader for our Birmingham, AL office. A remote or hybrid arrangement is negotiable. This role works with in‑house engineers, designers, and technicians to provide technical expertise for successful inspections and reports.
Primary responsibilities concentrate on SNBI bridge inspections, including field work and office tasks. The position requires travel across Tennessee and Mississippi, with occasional trips to other states. Additional tasks, such as load rating and bridge rehabilitation, may be added for those interested.
Responsibilities- Perform routine inspections of bridges and culverts to SNBI and state standards as Inspection Team Leader
- Coordinate site visits for inspections
- Assist with underwater inspections
- Follow company standard procedures for documenting inspections
- Upload daily inspection files to the specialized interface
- Enter bridge inspection data
- Conduct field work that may include carrying ladders and gear, working at heights, and working in hot or cold weather
- Perform NSTM inspections
With growing experience in Garver’s practice, responsibilities may evolve to include increased project and staff management.
Experience Requirements- National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130055 – Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges
- Minimum 8–15 years of related experience
- Strong communication skills
- Proficient with MS Office
- National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130078 – Fracture Critical Techniques for Steel Bridges
- National Highway Institute (NHI) Course No. 130091 – Underwater Bridge Inspection
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET program
- Experience with InspectX and/or other related asset‑management software
- Experience with Micro Station
- Experience with AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software
