Join Trane Technologies as a Controls Estimator located in Birmingham, AL. In this role you will work with building owners and contractors to provide estimates and quotes for HVAC Controls projects.
Where Is the WorkMonday to Thursday onsite with colleagues. Friday: remote or flexible location as needed.
What You Will Do- Produce cost estimates for materials, sub‑contractors, equipment, labor, and other construction activities to support Account Managers in bidding.
- Create detailed scope and cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions, preliminary proposals, and vendor/sub‑contractor quotes.
- Take off and price purchased equipment ensuring accurate quantity, size, configuration, voltage, and options.
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and risk items, maintaining a competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards.
- Develop scope of work for sub‑contractors and negotiate pricing with vendors to optimize job costs.
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings to review scope, strategy, etc.
- Assist Account Manager in determining the need for outsourced engineering and coordinate with Operations / Fulfillment to control cost variations.
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with 1–3 years of estimating, engineering, construction management experience, or 3–5 years field experience in controls, or equivalent combination.
- Practical experience and relevant skills; a college degree is not required.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines in a fast‑paced environment with attention to detail.
- Experience working directly with building owners or contractors (plus).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems and/or temperature controls preferred.
- Willingness to work overtime or weekends as needed.
- Valid driver’s license for at least 12 months with no major traffic violations in the past 3 years.
Annual base salary range: $63,111.66 - $. Compensation is based on seniority, experience, and location. Additional benefits may vary by region and status.
