Commissioning Engineer

Clade Engineering is a nationwide refrigeration, HVAC and building services business committed to delivering high‑quality, carbon‑conscious solutions across the United Kingdom.

Engineers in this role assemble and wire electrical components and control panels for refrigeration plant, heat pumps and associated assemblies in a production line setting. Key duties include:

• Read, interpret and follow design documents, engineering drawings and bills of materials to accurately assemble equipment.
• Follow instructions from supervisors and maintain compliance with health & safety regulations.
• Operate handheld tools safely and, where qualified, perform brazing.
• Maintain inventory of components, ensuring timely completion of job packs.
• Conduct quality checks before handover to QA personnel.
• Identify and report product defects, documenting corrective actions.
• Rework or repair assemblies per engineering specifications.
• Adhere to quality standards and established safety procedures.

Qualifications:

Relevant electrical qualifications preferred, with experience in a similar role and strong technical knowledge of refrigeration systems.

Responsible for commissioning refrigeration plant, water chillers, pump stations and heat pumps, predominantly in food‑retail sites.

• Setup, test, check and fault‑find new and existing refrigeration systems.
• Work on supermarket refrigeration systems and heat pumps, with opportunities in industrial sites.
• Stay current with the latest refrigeration technology, including brand new equipment.
• Report to the Clade Commissioning Supervisor and collaborate with the National Installations Manager.
• Play a key role in the company’s growth and ambition.

Required experience:

CO2 and HFC refrigeration systems, safe pressure‑testing practices, and a strong focus on quality. Flexible working hours and travel are needed.

Provides insulation for pipes and components to prevent heat gain and ensure a vapour seal. Training is provided.

• Apply insulation materials around pipework and components.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment to prevent heat gain and freezing.
• Attention to detail and precision are essential.

• Lead end‑to‑end electrical design from feasibility to detailed execution for high‑profile HVAC and refrigeration projects.
• Provide senior‑level guidance and mentor junior engineers.
• Collaborate with estimating and sales teams to develop compliant concept solutions.
• Oversee site surveys, evaluate existing systems, and identify retrofit opportunities.
• Champion energy‑efficient design practices, including load calculations and energy modelling.
• Approve all engineering documentation and ensure compliance.
• Act as technical authority in client meetings and provide clear solutions.
• Liaise with Projects Team during design handover and provide technical assurance throughout build.
• Lead post‑project reviews to promote continuous improvement.

• Extensive electrical design experience in building services, ideally with refrigeration or HVAC.
• Proven leadership of multi‑disciplinary design teams.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of BS7671:2018 + A2 and other relevant standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Amtech, Dialux, Trimble.
• Effective technical and commercial communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Manages a small assembly team and oversees daily operations on the shop floor.

• Deliver daily site operations as directed by the Shopfloor Manager.
• Ensure team members are trained and competent, escalating training needs.

• Maintain highest quality and compliance with health, safety, environment and quality standards.
• Lead by example and uphold a clean, tidy work area.
• Assist with interviewing new team members.
