Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer – Piping SR 3 with 10+ years of related experience in mechanical piping design. The ideal candidate will have strong experience supporting new construction, retrofit, environmental, and power generation projects, with expertise in 3D piping and equipment design.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 3D piping and equipment designs for retrofit, environmental, and new-generation projects.
- Produce 2D orthographic and isometric drawings, P&IDs, pipe support designs, and 3D piping/equipment models.
- Work closely with engineers and designers across multiple disciplines to develop safe, effective, and efficient designs.
- Apply applicable industry codes, standards, and design practices.
- Gather and incorporate field data into project deliverables.
- Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) and support piping component sizing and selection.
- Assist with pipe/material selection and valve selection.
- Lead multi-discipline technical teams on projects when required.
- Review and develop general arrangements.
- Check design drawings and technical documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Provide construction support and coordinate with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting schedules and quality requirements.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 10+ years of relevant mechanical piping design experience.
- Intermediate-to-advanced experience designing mechanical piping systems.
- Experience with piping design for power generation facilities, heavy industrial facilities, new construction, and/or retrofit projects.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling tools for piping system layouts and design.
- Experience producing:
- 2D orthographic drawings
- Isometric drawings
- P&IDs
- Pipe support drawings
- 3D piping and equipment models
- Experience reviewing and checking engineering/design drawings and documents.
- Experience preparing material take-offs.
- Strong understanding of basic piping construction techniques, practices, and concepts.
- Knowledge of piping materials, pipe selection, components, and valves.
- Ability to work efficiently on multiple large projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently with minimal instruction and guidance.
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Experience providing construction support.
- Experience reviewing and developing general arrangements.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with plant personnel, engineering/design teams, and vendors.
Preferred Qualification
- Autodesk Plant 3D experience is highly desired.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and highly organized mechanical piping designer who can independently manage complex design assignments, collaborate effectively with multi-discipline teams, and provide technically sound deliverables for large-scale power generation or heavy industrial projects.
