Lighting Services Engineer
A Lighting Services Engineer is a professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining lighting systems for various applications, such as commercial buildings, residential spaces, outdoor environments, and industrial facilities. They collaborate with clients, architects, and project teams to create effective and energy-efficient lighting solutions.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with clients and architects to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Design lighting systems that meet aesthetic, functional, and energy-efficiency goals.
- Perform lighting calculations and simulations to determine appropriate fixtures, luminance levels, and lighting layouts.
- Focus on energy-efficient lighting design by incorporating LED technology, daylight harvesting, and other sustainable practices.
- Create detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, and specifications for use by contractors and installers.
- Select lighting fixtures, controls, and accessories based on project requirements and budget constraints.
- Ensure lighting designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Conduct site visits to assess existing lighting conditions and gather data for retrofit or renovation projects.
- Estimate project costs, prepare lighting budgets, and monitor expenses.
- Manage lighting projects from concept to completion, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders.
- Perform quality control inspections to verify correct installation and functionality of lighting systems.
- Oversee the commissioning process to ensure efficient operation of lighting controls and systems.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and as-built records.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates and ensure satisfaction with lighting solutions.
- Explore and integrate smart lighting systems, automation, and controls to enhance user experience and energy savings.
- Experience in lighting design and engineering, preferably in a consulting or architectural firm.
- Familiarity with lighting design software such as AGi
32, Dialux. - In-depth knowledge of lighting principles, photometry, and lighting fixtures and controls.
- Familiarity with lighting codes, standards, and regulations, including ASHRAE, IESNA, and energy codes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant design tools.
- Strong design and creative skills for innovative lighting solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail for accurate calculations and designs.
- Collaboration and teamwork skills.
Skills & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field is desired.
- Lighting design certifications, such as LC (Lighting Certified), are a plus.
- Prior utility construction or engineering experience or an engineering degree from an accredited university.
This position will require extensive field work and customer interaction with residential customers. The successful candidate should expect to spend three out of five days a week auditing, field checking, and meeting with residential customers. There is an opportunity to get a foot in the door with Alabama's largest investor-owned utility, with prospects for long-term roles.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $37.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
