Interim Public Sector Accountant, GRANT Thornton

Overview

Join Grant Thornton’s Agile Talent Community (ATC) as an Interim Public Sector Accountant. You’ll work on a range of short‑to‑medium‑term assignments for CFO Solutions clients, delivering interim finance services across public sector organisations, and supporting finance function remediation and change programs.

Engage on projects you choose, whether full or part‑time, and provide:

• Accounts preparation (half‑ and full‑year‑end)
• Audit liaison, project management, and query resolution
• Monthly management accounts and forecasts
• Financial reporting under CIPFA Code of Practice, IFRS, and NAO Code of Practice
• Finance process improvement initiatives
• Reconciliation and remediation of accounting data

Support CFO Solutions in delivering on‑demand accounting services to clients across central government, local government, NHS, and other public bodies.

• Fully qualified member of a recognised professional accounting body (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent)
• Experience working within the finance function of a council or local government
• Problem‑solving mindset with a strong drive for best practice
• Knowledge of public sector accounting and finance practices

• Freedom to choose projects and hours, with both full‑time and part‑time options
• Support from the Agile Talent team for freelance regulation and professional development
