Opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced Sales & Use Tax Manager to join our growing State & Local Tax (SALT) practice. In this role, you’ll partner with clients across a variety of industries to navigate the complexities of multistate sales and use tax compliance, planning, and controversy matters.

You’ll serve as a trusted advisor, helping businesses manage risk, identify opportunities, and stay ahead of an ever‑changing tax landscape. This role offers a blend of technical consulting, client relationship management, and team leadership, making it an excellent opportunity for a professional who enjoys solving complex tax challenges while building meaningful client relationships.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead multistate sales and use tax compliance engagements, including preparation and review of returns across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advise clients on sales and use tax nexus, taxability determinations, transaction structuring, and indirect tax planning opportunities.
  • Manage sales and use tax audits, assessments, and controversy matters with state and local taxing authorities.
  • Conduct voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), refund studies, and recovery reviews to identify savings opportunities and reduce risk.
  • Assist clients in evaluating the sales and use tax implications of mergers, acquisitions, and business restructuring initiatives.
  • Research and interpret evolving state and local tax laws, regulations, and court decisions and communicate their impact to clients and team members.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by providing practical solutions to complex indirect tax challenges.
  • Develop proposals, presentations, and thought leadership content that support client service and practice growth.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities to expand advisory services.
  • Mentor, train, and review the work of associates and senior staff, supporting their professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to strengthen and grow the State & Local Tax practice.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of sales and use tax experience in public accounting or a combination of public accounting and industry/government.
  • Strong technical knowledge of multistate sales and use tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing audits, voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), and state and local tax controversy matters.
  • Strong tax research skills and experience utilizing tax research databases and compliance software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing professional staff.
  • Proven ability to build client relationships and contribute to business development efforts.
Preferred
  • CPA license or CMI‑Sales Tax (Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation) designation.
  • Experience with indirect tax automation solutions such as Avalara, Vertex, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with ERP and accounting systems.
