• Manage and have significant authority for financial operations of large complex units requiring comprehensive knowledge of principles, procedures and practices specific to accounting, financial analysis and budgeting.
• Supervise departmental accounting operations and activities including approval and processing of disbursement requisitions and internal requisitions, personnel action papers, and vendor interactions, while ensuring compliance with UAB bid policy and procedures.
• Make decisions regarding the reporting and use of financial resources.
• Provide ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions.
• Ensure proper accounting for all state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts.
• May make decisions regarding short‑term investments.
• Provide financial guidance to assigned staff and support the University accounting system.
• May manage revenue‑producing activities.
• Have responsibility for effort reporting and regulatory compliance.
• Develop and administer budgets and financial systems, project revenue, and develop and monitor financial policies and procedures.
• Develop financial statements and provide reports to department leaders and senior management.
• Supervise accounting office staff, which may include hiring, training, evaluating performance, disciplinary actions and, if necessary, discharge of staff.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field.
• Seven (7) years of related experience.
• Work experience does not substitute for the education requirement.
