We are seeking a capable and dynamic Financial Controller to join our entreprenuerial team le logistics is at the heart of what we do we have affiliated ventures including Vulcan Last Mile Solutions and Zoom Drain of Birmingham. As our companies grow we need to build a mature financial system that will enable our continued trajectory across the portfolio.

The Financial Controller is a full-time, on-site role based in Birmingham, AL. This role oversees day-to-day financial operations, including managing the month-end and year-end close processes, preparing and reviewing financial statements, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across companies. The Financial Controller will monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow, analyze financial performance, and provide insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Responsibilities include maintaining robust accounting controls, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. The role also involves partnering with operations and leadership teams to develop financial policies, improve processes, and support continued growth and profitability.

• Own the full accounting cycle across all Ursa Group entities, including month-end close, consolidation, and intercompany transactions.
• Produce accurate and timely financial statements, P&L reporting by entity and location, and consolidated holding-company results.
• Develop, monitor, and report on budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and general ledger integrity.
• Establish and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
• Lead cash management, banking relationships, and working capital optimization across entities.
• Oversee tax compliance, audits, license and coordination with external CPAs, lenders, and financial partners.
• Support loan underwriting and financing efforts with EBITDA narratives, financial packages, and supporting analysis.
• Partner with operational leaders to analyze unit economics, margins, and cost drivers across business lines.
• Mentor and develop bookkeeping and administrative staff, building finance team capacity as the organization grows.
• Identify and implement systems, tooling, and process improvements to increase reporting accuracy and efficiency.

• Strong foundation in Finance and Accounting, with the ability to manage general ledger activities and overall financial operations.
• Proficiency in preparing and interpreting Financial Statements and Financial Reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
• Advanced Analytical Skills to evaluate financial performance, identify trends, and support data-driven business decisions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• 10-15 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including prior experience in a controller or senior accounting role.
• Experience with accounting software and ERP systems (Quickbooks, Auto Leap, Service Titan as examples), along with strong Excel skills.
• Knowledge of GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements, with a track record of maintaining strong internal controls.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with operations and leadership in a fast-growing logistics environment.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, problem solve, take initiative, meet deadlines, and lead or mentor a small finance team.
