Credit Underwriter
The Credit Underwriter is responsible for evaluating retail installment contracts submitted through First US Bank's network of approved dealer partners. Analyzes loan applications against established credit criteria and bank policy to make credit decisions for approval. Supports the overall business needs of the Indirect Lending Department. Provides superior service in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner. Performs other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities /
Job Duties:
- Evaluate credit applications to evaluate risk and make appropriate credit decision for indirect consumer loans submitted by boat, camper, RV, horse trailer, and cargo trailer dealerships across multiple states.
- Verify completeness and accuracy of credit applications.
- Review documents to support credit decision (credit report, verification of income, tax returns, personal financial statements, etc.)
- Underwrite loans within stated consumer lending guidelines and applicable regulations.
- Formulate and communicate credit decision (approve, decline, or counteroffer) in compliance with established procedures and applicable regulations.
- Interact with dealership finance departments to clarify loan decisions as necessary.
- Manage a high-volume application pipeline to meet business objectives.
- Provide superior quality service to internal and external customers at all times and demonstrate a professional demeanor.
- Maintain positive working relationships with dealer partners to support business growth and service excellence while promoting efficient and accurate funding practices.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, processes, and procedures.
- Participate in and complete all required compliance training, including BSA/AML, as well as other internal and external training programs.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and dealer experience.
- Assist in training new teammates as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years of consumer lending credit underwriting experience required.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other business computer systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a face-paced environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and occasional Saturdays, to meet operational demands during month-end, peak seasonal funding cycles, and other high-volume business periods.
Working Environment / Physical Demands:
Work is performed in a professional office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May require the ability to lift files, bend, reach, walk or maneuver around the bank. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
