The Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Office of Audit (OA) conducts audits, evaluations, and other reviews of the SSA programs and operations to measure the effectiveness of policies and procedures; assess the achievement of program goals; evaluate the economy and efficiency of operations; and identify vulnerabilities to fraud, waste, and abuse. This is a developmental position leading to the full performance level of GS-13.

Applicants must qualify for the series and grade of the posted position.
Individual Occupational Requirements - Basic Requirements for Performance AuditorsAll applicants, regardless of grade level must meet the following minimum education or experience requirements.
Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration, or accounting.
NOTE:
Additional degrees including actuarial science, economics, government, mathematics, political science, and statistics will be accepted.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
- A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
- Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the grade specific requirements below in order to qualify:
To qualify for the GS-07 level, applicants must possess at least one of the following:Specialized Experience
:
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-05 level or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include all of the following: (1) Assisting with routine financial or performance audit procedures;
(2) Gathering documentation in support of financial or performance audits.-OR-
Education or Combination: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience or combine education and experience to qualify. Please see Education section for details.
Superior Academic Achievement: This provision recognizes students who have achieved superior academic standing as evidenced by one of the three methods described below. It is to be used to determine eligibility for applicable GS-7 level positions of persons who have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all the requirements for a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum related to the position. Please see Education section for details.
Specialized
Experience:
Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience must include all of the following: (1) Performing basic financial or performance audit procedures;
(2) Gathering and organizing documentation in support of financial or performance audits; (3) Analyzing data in support of financial or performance audits.-OR-
Education or Combination: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience or combine education and experience to qualify. Please see Education section for details.
