Position: Community Resource Representative - City of Birmingham

Community Resource Representative

The City of Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Community Resource Representative to foster citizen and community engagement by assisting residents, nonprofit organizations, local officials, and community groups with community development and public health initiatives. This position serves as a liaison between the City and the community by providing information, interpreting policies and ordinances, identifying community needs, and supporting neighborhood improvement efforts.

Responsibilities include developing and implementing community programs and projects, maintaining related communications and records, and training neighborhood association leaders on the effective administration and oversight of association activities.

Compensation and benefits include competitive pay and comprehensive benefits packages to include medical and dental insurance, employer-sponsored retirement plan (pension), generous paid holidays, sick and vacation leave, and more. The pay range for this job is $45,136 - $70,012.

Minimum qualifications required for employment consideration for this position include:

  • Driver's license.
  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college/university in any of the following areas: sociology, social work, planning, urban studies, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Work experience performing neighborhood/community program development, monitoring, and implementation.
  • Experience organizing/implementing community and public outreach events, efforts, and mass communications.
  • Work experience in a customer service capacity dealing with a diverse population.

Preferred qualifications deemed desirable by the City of Birmingham include:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in sociology, social work, planning, urban studies, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Significant work experience performing neighborhood/community program development, monitoring, and implementation.
  • Work experience monitoring budgets and expenditures.
  • Experience creating and managing social media platforms.

Typical job duties include:

  • Assisting with a variety of city programs, initiatives, events, and emergencies.
  • Overseeing the evaluation and processing of goods and services.
  • Planning, conducting, and facilitating meetings and special events.
  • Implementing and monitoring neighborhood association activities.
  • Observing and evaluating neighborhoods.
  • Engaging in activities for professional development.
  • Acquiring, exchanging, and disseminating technical or legal information.

Physical demands include primarily sedentary work with occasional walking or standing and light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

Work environment includes both indoor office settings and regular field visits to external places of business.
