PCT - Patient Care Technician - Neurology and Seizure Monitoring Unit; EMU

Position Overview

Pay range: $15.50 - $19.50 / hour

Shifts:

full-time AM and PM, part-time AM and PM, flexi/PRN. Schedules: 7 a.m.

-7 p.m., 7 p.m.

-7 a.m.

The Neurology Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (NEMU) is an existing 28-bed acute care unit that will be moving to the new state-of-the-art UAB Rehabilitation Pavilion, opening in 2025. This neuro unit provides comprehensive and specialized care for general neurology patients, as well as those with epilepsy. UAB Medicine is home to Alabama’s only Level IV Epilepsy Center, the highest designation available from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

Nurses on this unit have a unique opportunity to work with a comprehensive range of advanced technology and the latest treatments, including continuous video electroencephalograph (EEG) monitoring. Video EEG captures and records brain activity to accurately detect and classify seizure events, which is critical for providing personalized, appropriate, and precise care for our patients. These nurses are active members of an interdisciplinary care team, working alongside neurologists, neurophysiology technologists, and other expert support staff.

In addition, UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs of its kind nationally by U.S. News & World Report, which also has ranked UAB’s program as No. 1 in Alabama.

To assume responsibility for certain technical aspects of patient care as directed by the RN/LPN for the hospital. To obtain and record vitals, weight, inputs and outputs. To successfully complete an in-house PCT training program. To demonstrate an awareness of patient and personal safety.

High School diploma or GED required. Depending on the unit/department or if the position works directly with patients, Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required or required to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
