Position Description
Work schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm
Work location:
Substance Abuse Center, Homewood, AL

Under general supervision, provides clinical assessment, counseling, drug education and case management for substance abuse clients in accordance with government and department standards. Provides general orientation and supervision for Substance Abuse Counselor I’s as needed.
Position RequirementsMaster's degree in Counseling, Mental Health, Social Work or related Human Services field required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Licenses / Certifications / RegistrationsMust obtain one of the following within thirty (30) months of employment:
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling (ABEC)
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners
- Addiction Counselor Certification
- Must be self-directed / self-motivated; must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Perform duties that shift frequently without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Accept responsibility for direction, control and planning of one’s own work.
- Work independently.
- Recognize rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality.
- Convey empathy and compassion to those experiencing pain, physical or emotional distress and/or grief.
